As per the National Electrical Code the minimum distance of earthing is 8 feet. However, in practice, the earthing distance is often greater than 8 feet. The main reason for this is that the National Electrical Code requires a minimum depth of 8 feet for the burial of the earthing rod. In order to ensure that the earthing rod is buried to the required depth, the earthing distance is often greater than 8 feet.
