Earthing in electricity is the process of providing a safe path for electrical current to flow to the ground. This is done by connecting an electrical conductor, such as a wire or rod, to the Earth. Earthing is important because it protects people and equipment from electrical shocks.
Earthing also helps to stabilize the voltage of an electrical system. When earthing is not used, voltage can fluctuate, which can cause damage to equipment or cause a fire.
There are two types of earthing:
- Permanent earthing – This is when an electrical conductor is permanently connected to the ground. This is usually done by burying the conductor in the ground.
- Temporary earthing – This is when an electrical conductor is only connected to the ground for a short period of time. This is sometimes done when working on electrical equipment.
